Fine Dining and Nightlife in Los Angeles, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Burbank
Smoke House Restaurant (Burbank)
Los Angeles Restaurant Landmark, the Smoke House was founded in 1946 at the corner of Pass & Riverside in Burbank by Lockheed employees Jack Monroe & Jim Stockton and silent partner Bill Storey. The original restaurant seated 46 people, and was enjoyed by local luminaries Bob Hope and Bing Crosby (among others) on its opening night. Anybody who was "anybody" at Warner Bros. (across the street) and in the entertainment industry frequented the venerable eatery. It wasn't unusual to see Errol Flynn, Judy Garland, Milton Berle, or Robert Redford walk through the Smoke House doors and into the restaurant known for respecting their privacy. The Laugh-In show use to rent the restaurant for their parties, and Jack Parr even hosted the Tonight Show from the Smoke House in 1956.

Yamashiro Restaurant (Hollywood)
For 88 years Yamashiro has watched over the history of Hollywood. It has witnessed the birth of the film industry, the glamour of Hollywood's "Golden Age", the difficult times of war with Japan, and the current period of intense interest in Eastern cultures. Yamashiro started as a fabulous private estate and is now open to the public as a unique restaurant and public gardens. Yamashiro means "Mountain Palace" in Japanese. It was the dream of the Bernheimer brothers in 1911 to build a hilltop mansion 250 feet above Hollywood Boulevard to house their priceless collection of Asian treasures. Hundreds of skilled craftsmen were brought from the Orient to recreate an exact replica of a palace located in the "Yamashiro" mountains near Kyoto, Japan.
